Within these groups, you have those who came to Malaya as Muslims and Christians, and those who have recently converted. There are also many Tamil Muslims and Christians. Tamil schools & Hindu temples are hot-button topics for Indian community here and are fierce issues of contention whenever threatened by government. I guess because we're minorities, religion & language become a bastions of your identity. I would say that Malaysian Tamils are more staunchly Hindu compared to Indian Tamils overall. I'm a cricket fan though, try to watch CSK and Indian national team whenever possible. I don't know what is popular nowadays (Saravanan Meenatchi?, Satan Thandu Veedu?), as my family no longer watch serials, but back in the days my family used to watch Anni, Chitti, Sahana Sindhu Bhairavi and Vidaathu Karuppu (my fav).Ĭricket is not popular amongst Malaysian Tamils, I doubt most people understand the rules. We have cable through which you can get Sun TV, Vijay TV and the rest. So you can easily watch Kaththi in cinemas, but not Attakathi or Savarakathi. "Smaller" movies by lesser known actors and directors either get screened at very specific cinemas or don't make it to Malaysia at all. Movies by Rajni-Kamal, Vijay-Ajith, Surya-Dhanush-Vikram will usually be screened at most cinemas in urban centres. We also have FDFS concept, but not as major as back in TN. But you will not see the veriyan level fandom that TN Vijay/Ajith fans have haha.
